PSG Stands by Achraf Hakimi as Fans Remain Divided
PSG continues to support Achraf Hakimi, who will stand trial for rape after his appeal to the Court of Cassation was rejected. But supporters are divided. Some defend the Moroccan player, while others are calling for him to step away temporarily. A Le Parisien report reveals the tensions.

Alya admires Achraf Hakimi. She appreciates his discretion, his role in the team and what he represents as a model of success. Yet this Paris Saint-Germain supporter now believes the Moroccan defender should temporarily leave the pitch. “I think he should step away while he awaits trial,” she says. Her view is far from unanimous among the Paris club’s supporters.

In an investigation published this Friday, October 9, Le Parisien spoke to several supporters and feminist activists about the reactions to the case. Three and a half years after the events reported by a young woman, the player is due to appear before the Hauts-de-Seine criminal court. The trial date is not yet known.
At PSG, the club’s position has not changed. It stresses that Hakimi firmly denies the accusations and is entitled to the presumption of innocence. The club also reiterates its commitment to fighting sexual violence, without publicly considering any action against its defender.
Among supporters, views are less uniform. Jonathan, 43, does not condemn the banner of support displayed at the Parc des Princes last February, after the announcement that the Moroccan would stand trial. But he now distinguishes between a trial and a mere accusation. Even so, he believes that being sidelined should not cost the player his salary.
Supporters divided, activists hesitant to mobilize
Others remain convinced of the footballer’s innocence. Gaël, 51, points to his professional circle and lifestyle to explain why he does not believe the accusations.
Alya, for her part, refuses to reduce the case to the player’s reputation. She points out that a woman has reported serious allegations and that her account also deserves to be heard. In her view, a temporary withdrawal would allow Hakimi to prepare his defense while avoiding further exposure for PSG.
But why have the protests remained so muted? Mylène, 32, who is involved with several feminist organizations, gives a practical answer. She does not plan to take part in a rally outside a stadium: “I’m too afraid of physical violence from supporters,” she explains.

That fear contrasts with the support shown by some Paris fans. In February, supporters chanted Hakimi’s name and unfurled a banner in his favor. Several feminist organizations denounced the gesture, but failed to prompt a mobilization comparable to those seen in other sectors.
On September 23, the Court of Cassation rejected Achraf Hakimi’s appeal, confirming that he would stand trial before a criminal court. The player continues to deny the allegations, as he had already said publicly when discussing his upcoming trial. For those interviewed by Le Parisien, this latest stage in the legal proceedings does not erase divisions among supporters or questions about the attitude of the football world.
