PSG Eyes Olympic Top Scorer Soufiane Rahimi Amid Saudi Interest

The list of suitors for the Moroccan striker of Al Ain, Soufiane Rahimi, top scorer in the men’s football tournament at the Paris-2024 Olympics, is expanding.

PSG wants to acquire the services of Soufiane Rahimi, after his brilliant participation in the men’s football tournament at the Olympic Games in Paris. Top scorer in the men’s Olympic football tournament in Paris-2024 with eight goals, he contributed to leading the Moroccan Olympic team to win its first bronze medal. In a post on his X account, a journalist specified that PSG wants to recruit the Moroccan striker of Al-Ain and has already presented an attractive offer for the player, whose market value exceeds 8 million euros. His contract with the Emirati club runs until June 2025. Before PSG, several European clubs have expressed interest in Soufiane. These are: Lyon in France, Villarreal in Spain and Stuttgart in Germany. Saudi clubs like Ittihad and Al Nassr have also expressed their intention to enlist the Moroccan striker to strengthen their squad before the new season.

At the origin of this interest are the good performances achieved by the 28-year-old player. He became the first African player to win the top scorer title in football competitions at the Olympic Games, and the first player to score 8 goals in six consecutive matches in this tournament. He is now the African player who has scored the most goals in the Olympic Games, with a total of 8 goals, equaling the number of goals scored by the Egyptian Mostafa Riad in the same tournament in 1964.

Rahimi led his club to win the Asian Champions League title last season against Yokohama Marinos of Japan. He particularly shone in the matches against Al Nassr and Al Hilal in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, scoring 6 goals against Al Nassr and Al Hilal, or 3 goals in each team. Also, he set a record by becoming the Al Ain player who has scored the most goals in a single edition of the Asian Champions League with a total of 13 goals, contributing to 15 goals (13 goals and 2 assists), surpassing the record of Asamoah Gyan in 2014.
