PSA Aims to Lead Moroccan Auto Market with Electric Vehicle Launch

In an interview published on the Largus website, Yves Peyrot des Gachons, director of the Maghreb region for the automotive manufacturer PSA, announced the brand’s dream of being the leader in the automotive market with the 208, produced in Morocco, and the introduction of electric vehicles in the Maghreb.
Established in Morocco for a few years now, the automotive manufacturer PSA wants to develop electric vehicles in the Maghreb. According to Yves Peyrot des Gachons, not all markets are at the same stage of acceptability of this technology. It all depends on the impetus given by the authorities, as early as the first half of 2020, he adds. "There is an environmental awareness in Morocco. The electric is a legitimate offer, it will find its customers," noted the director of the Maghreb region of the group.
In this regard, the electric version of the Peugeot 208 is manufactured in PSA’s new plant in Kenitra. The e-208 offers a range of 340 km in the WLTP cycle and a charging capacity of 80% in just 30 minutes on 100 kW public stations, for a motor power of 136 hp and a torque of 260 Nm available permanently, indicates the PSA group.
In Morocco, steps are underway for the installation of charging stations for these electric vehicles. Tangier and Marrakech will soon welcome these state-of-the-art installations.
For its part, the government is committed to supporting the automotive industry which, according to its Head, Saâdeddine El Othmani, has made great strides in Morocco. During the monthly parliamentary question session held on Monday, December 30, the Head of the Executive announced the imminent arrival on the market of the first Moroccan-made electric car.
