EU Provides Morocco $184 Million in COVID-19 Aid to Boost Healthcare and Economy

The European Union is coming to the aid of Morocco in the fight against Covid-19. It has just made 169 million euros available to the Moroccan authorities to strengthen the medical response and implement measures to mitigate the socio-economic impact of the pandemic.
According to a statement from the European executive, this amount, which is in fact the last part of the 450 million euros promised by the institution as part of the fight against the coronavirus, comes in addition to the 264 million euros paid to Morocco at the beginning of March.
"Stimulating growth and employment to ensure livelihoods and keep businesses affected by the current crisis afloat is an essential priority for both parties," said European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, quoted in the statement.
To recall, about 1.4 billion euros (about 200 million euros per year) has been allocated by the EU for bilateral aid to Morocco, focused on supporting inclusive development and equitable access to basic social services (education, health, social protection), democratic governance, the rule of law and the development of civil society, support for the private sector, sustainable growth and job creation, especially among young people.
