Protesters in Morocco Rally Against Israel-Gaza Conflict and Diplomatic Ties

Nearly 200 people demonstrated on Monday in Rabat against the deadly clashes between Israel and Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza and against the normalization of relations between Morocco and the Jewish state.
In solidarity with the Palestinians, the protesters, gathered in front of the parliament, condemned the "Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip", chanting slogans and waving banners calling for the "fall of normalization" of diplomatic relations between Israel and Morocco.
The protesters, mostly from far-left and Islamist parties, burned an Israeli flag. This demonstration comes the day after the truce obtained between the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Israel, after mediation by Egypt.
Morocco and Israel normalized their diplomatic relations in December 2020 under the auspices of the United States, as part of the Abraham Accords. Since then, several Israeli officials have visited Rabat. Last week, the head of the Israeli police, Yaakov Shabtai, was in Morocco.
