Poverty-Stricken Spanish Mother Kills Disabled Son, Takes Own Life in Tragic Ourense Case

The inhabitants of Ourense in Spain were all shocked by the sad event that occurred at the Jiménez home. Under the weight of poverty, Julia Jiménez, a sexagenarian who survived thanks to the help of Caritas and four Moroccan immigrant families who provided her with food, took her own life. But before that, she killed her 45-year-old quadriplegic son.
According to the neighbors, the deceased was very attached to her quadriplegic son for years. "She hoped he would recover, but she saw no progress in his health," they say. These two deaths are the subject of an investigation by the national police, which, according to kaosenlared.net, is focusing much more on the case of the son of Julia. Indeed, Antonio Javier Fernández Jiménez, alias Tarzanín, had a well-stocked criminal record.
As unusual as this tragic event may seem, it is nevertheless true that its motives are to be sought in the prevailing precarious situation in which Julia and her son were plunged. In reality, advances the same media, the friends and good-hearted people who used to rush to the aid of Julia Jiménez, clearly know what happened. Thus, testifies a neighbor of the deceased: "she took her own life because she was tired of so much poverty and suffering, and also, did not want to leave her son alone". For his part, Rachid Ezzahir, who had lived for a time in the same building as the deceased, says: "She had nothing to eat, and she has always wanted to be close to her son. My wife brought her food two days ago and asked her to hug her," he adds between sobs.
In the house where Julia Jiménez lived, there were also four other Moroccan families who supported her by offering her meals every day. "Last Monday, a relative of my wife, residing in the same property, was going to Morocco and, before leaving, he asked his son to wake her up so that he could say goodbye to her. When he entered the room, he found that she was dead," explains Rachid, who adds in despair: "I don’t know why she didn’t ask us for help".
The kaosenlared.net site specifies that Julia Jiménez rented her apartment. "There could have been a month’s delay, but it was very expensive. I don’t know how she managed them," the landlord also explains, recalling that the sexagenarian’s "life was not easy".
