Portuguese National Gets 8-Year Sentence in Casablanca Land Fraud Case

A Portuguese national involved with other individuals in a case of usurpation of other people’s land property has been sentenced to eight years in prison. This is the judgment rendered by the Casablanca Court of Appeal.

In addition to this conviction, the Court of Appeal also ordered the destruction of all the false documents used for the registration of the real estate property located in Ain Diab, the value of which is estimated at more than 50 million dirhams, reports Article19.ma. A family of 8 people was living in the expropriated property. Based on a false court decision, based on a title deed, they had been evicted from the house.

Questioned by the judges in charge of the case, the Portuguese national revealed that a businessman and a Moroccan residing in Italy, as well as investors, are involved in this land spoliation. According to his confidences, the Moroccan businessman ordered the signing of the falsified contracts that allowed them to appropriate a large part of the land property in Ain Diab.

The defendant also stated that he was the victim of an organized network that involved him in a fraud case without his knowledge, due to his lack of mastery of the Arabic language. He claimed to have never carried out any real estate transactions in this language in Morocco or elsewhere.

Mahfoud M. and Ahmed. M., also involved in this case, were sentenced to 3 years and 2 years in prison respectively.
