Port of Algeciras Strike Threatens Summer Travel for Moroccan Diaspora

Des employés du port d’Algésiras ont annoncé une grève d’un mois à partir du 20 juillet prochain, en pleine Opération Marhaba marquant le retour des Marocains d’Europe vers le Maroc via les ports andalous.
After the failure of negotiations with their employer, the fleet employees have decided to observe work stoppages for a period of one month starting from July 20. Thus, the strike will take place every day from 7am to 9am, from 1pm to 3pm and from 7pm to 9pm.
The employees are demanding a reduction in workload and adequate rest periods for the fleet and radio, an increase in staff, and a 6.5% annual salary increase for the period 2025-2028. "We have exhausted all avenues of dialogue without the company assuming its responsibility or providing real solutions" to the issues raised, indicates the Coordination of Port Workers (TPA), the union that accompanies the strike committee in this process.
This strike comes in the middle of the summer season when Moroccans residing in Europe transit in large numbers through the Andalusian ports and that of Algeciras in particular to reach Morocco as part of the Marhaba Operation. The port of Algeciras has moreover activated its special device last week to facilitate the transit of Moroccans residing abroad.
