Porsche Expands in Morocco, Plans National EV Charging Network

Morocco is one of the fastest growing markets for the German luxury car manufacturer Porsche. The company aims to expand its charging network.

Morocco is the third fastest growing market for the German luxury car manufacturer Porsche, says Manfred Braunl, CEO of Porsche Middle East and Africa. He discussed Porsche’s major expansion plans in Morocco. Porsche’s ambition is to set up a national charging network. In this sense, the German manufacturer aimed to offer 33 chargers by the end of last year.

Porsche has launched the "Porsche Destination Charging" program, which brings together 3,152 AC charging stations in 20 countries, and aims to stimulate electric vehicle sales. The target? Luxury hotels: Mamounia, Sofitel Marrakech, Sofitel Tamuda Bay, Syrayan Boutique Hotel, Paradis Plage and Hyatt Taghazout. The German manufacturer plans to install future charging stations at the Sofitel Jardin des Roses, the Sofitel Tour Blanche, the Fairmont Royal Palm Hotel, the Fairmont Residences Royal Palm, the Corniche Complex and the Mohammedia Port Restaurant.

"Porsche’s initiative reflects the awareness of a broader problem that is challenging the adoption of electric vehicles," said the company spokesperson during the launch of the "Porsche Destination Charging" program. The scarcity of charging stations is a source of concern for electric vehicle enthusiasts and is also a barrier to product sales. In a survey conducted by The Economist, people cited "range anxiety" - the fear of not finding where to charge electric vehicles - as the main reason for their reluctance to opt for electric vehicles.
