Polisario Militants Launch Missile Attack Near Moroccan Military Base, Reports Say

After the explosions that occurred in the city of Smara, in the Sahara at the end of October, the Polisario, protected by Algeria, would be behind the attack on Tamegroute, a small tourist town famous for its pottery and dunes, located about twenty kilometers from Zagora.

"At least four missiles struck today (Wednesday, ed.) near the military base of Tamekrout (sic) in Morocco, where Moroccan army troops are deployed in the south of the country, on the borders of Western Sahara," reports ECSaharaui, a media owned by Polisario militiamen. On the web, Moroccan Internet users have reacted to this new attack. On X (ex-Twitter), some blame Morocco for the lack of retaliation. "So the Polisario just attacked Tamegroute, a city that is neither part of the Sahara nor the buffer zone. Will we wait for them to hit Fez and Oujda to react?" writes a Moroccan Internet user.

Four explosions had sounded in the night from Saturday, October 28 to Sunday in the city of Es-Semara. The ZAP, Hay Essalam, and the industrial district (two explosions) neighborhoods had been hit by these explosions. The toll is one dead - Hamza Jeaifri, a young MRE who was on vacation in Morocco - and three injured, two of whom are in serious condition. In a statement released late on October 29, the Polisario said the separatists "targeted enemy forces in the Mahbès, Es-Semara and Farsia sectors on Sunday." And to specify that these are "concentrated and violent bombardments", which caused "heavy losses" in the aforementioned sectors.
