Polisario Leader Brahim Ghali Renewed Spanish ID in 2016, Police Confirm

Brahim Ghali holds a national identity card issued by the Spanish state in January 2006 and which he renewed on June 30, 2016 in Talavera de la Reina (Toledo). This is the information given to the National Court by the General Information Commissariat of the police.

In a letter addressed to the court on May 7, the police confirm that the leader of the Polisario Front had a valid identity document when he arrived in Zaragoza on April 18 on an Algerian presidential plane. The identity document, in the name of Ghali Sidi Mohamed Adbelyelil, born on August 18, 1948 in Smara (Sahara), was issued on January 31, 2006 in Madrid and was renewed on June 30, 2016 in Talavera de la Reina, reports La Razon.

But the letter also confirms that Brahim Ghali was admitted to a hospital in Logroño under a false identity (Mohamed Benbatouche), especially since according to the information found in his criminal records, Ghali held an identity card issued on December 7, 1999 in Madrid in the name of Brahim Ghali Moustafa, born on August 16, 1949.

The public prosecutor represented by Antonio Urdiales in this case of forgery and use of forgery, has brought these facts to the attention of the investigating judge of the Zaragoza court, Rafael Lasala. "Ghali necessarily had to go to Talavera de la Reina to renew his identity card on June 30, 2016, the date on which the judge initiated the preliminary procedure 1/2008 against him for alleged crimes of genocide and other human rights violations, and which also curiously coincided with his investiture as president of the government of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic," he explains in a letter, asking the judge to request the administrative files relating to the identity documents issued to Ghali in 1999 and January 2006 in the name of Ghali Sidi-Mohamed Abdelyelil.

The public prosecutor also proposes to the judge to ask the military authorities to specify which ambulance came to pick up Brahim Ghali and to provide the transfer report. Similarly, it wishes that the military authorities specify whether the plane from Algeria was "diverted to a security area after landing", under the control of part of the base staff.
