Policemen facing "whites": the phrase from Pascal Praud that does not pass

The coordinator of La France insoumise (LFI), Manuel Bompard, announced the seizure of the Arcom and the public prosecutor against the host Pascal Praud. This decision follows comments made on the show "L’Heure des Pros" on CNews, regarding the attitude of the law enforcement towards farmers demonstrating on the A64 motorway.

During the sequence, Pascal Praud stated that it was "not easy for the police" to intervene against "white" people, with whom they sometimes shared the same origins or convictions. Manuel Bompard described these remarks as racist, stating that in France, the police do not have to act according to skin color. This position was supported by Olivier Faure, the first secretary of the Socialist Party, who also requested the intervention of the audiovisual regulator.

For his part, the host denounces an instrumentalization of his remarks. He explains that he wanted to respond to the accusations of "systemic racism" within the police, recently made by the activist Assa Traoré. According to Pascal Praud, his intervention was, on the contrary, intended to demonstrate that the police carry out their mission with neutrality, regardless of the profile of the demonstrators facing them. He assures that his remarks underlined the professionalism of the law enforcement despite a possible sociological proximity with the farmers.
