EU Pledges €101.7 Million to Morocco for Migration Control and Anti-Trafficking Efforts

Morocco has just received a financial support of 101.7 million euros from the European Union to intensify its fight against illegal immigration and human trafficking.
This support is part of the Emergency Trust Fund for Africa. Its objective is to "support Morocco’s efforts to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking," says a press release from the European Commission.
According to the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, this new aid helps deepen the Institution’s partnership with Morocco to further reduce the number of illegal migrant arrivals on the Western Mediterranean route and prevent people from risking their lives.
This is a total amount of 147.7 million euros, of which 41 million euros are intended to improve the protection of migrants, children and vulnerable communities in Libya. In addition, another contribution of 5 million euros has been mobilized by the EU to promote economic opportunities in North Africa, in particular by giving a boost to regional entrepreneurship.
