PJD Party Faces Financial Crisis, New Headquarters Project in Jeopardy

The Party of Justice and Development (PJD) is going through a bad patch. After the setback suffered in the general elections of September 8, the Islamists are in financial difficulty and are unable to complete the construction of their new headquarters.
Without the contributions of its elected officials and the state subsidies estimated at 20 million dirhams per year, the PJD is heading for ruin. Financially reduced, the party is having difficulty completing the construction of its headquarters in Hay Riad, the budget of which is estimated at 40 million dirhams, reports the daily Al Akhbar.
According to the party’s treasurer, Abdelkader Amara, the currently available resources are not enough to cover the expenses related to the construction work of the new headquarters. The PJD could abandon the project and even be forced to sell the property as is to save the party, which is on the verge of bankruptcy, according to certain sources.

Initially, the financing of the project was to come from the contributions of the 60 elected officials that the party expected to obtain at the end of the Legislative Elections of September 8. These contributions, estimated at 5 million dirhams, were to be supplemented by the 8 million dirhams in subsidies granted by the Ministry of the Interior. Unfortunately, the PJD only obtained 12 seats out of the 60 planned.
The construction work on the new party headquarters was launched in January 2021 by the former head of government, Saad El Othmani, who announced their completion in less than thirty months.
