Peruvian Soccer Players Clash with Police Outside Madrid Hotel Before Morocco Match

An incident broke out at the concentration hotel in Madrid where the Peruvian national team is currently staying before a friendly match against Morocco. Hundreds of supporters had gathered in front of the hotel to cheer on their players, but the situation quickly degenerated into clashes with the national police.
According to witnesses, a law enforcement officer allegedly wrongly pushed Yoshimar Yotún, a Peruvian player, who then reacted by pushing the officer back. The two parties were then reportedly involved in altercations that lasted several minutes.
The Peruvian national team’s goalkeeper, Pedro Gallese, was briefly detained for his alleged involvement in the incident, but has since been released without charges. The Peruvian consular authorities have confirmed that Gallese was heading to the concentration hotel to join his teammates before the friendly match.
The Peruvian press quickly denied that other members of the team, including Álex Valera, Yoshimar Yotún and José Carvallo, had been arrested.
