Pension Reform Protests Disrupt Morocco-France Flights, Royal Air Maroc Cancels Services

Many flights between Morocco and France could be canceled on Thursday, March 23 due to the continued mobilization against the pension reform and the postponement of the legal retirement age to 64 years. Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has already canceled several flights.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) has once again called on airlines to reduce their flight schedules at the airports of Paris-Orly, Marseille-Provence and regional airports on Thursday, the day of the national mobilization against the pension reform, reports Air Journal. "Despite these preventive measures, disruptions and delays are nevertheless to be expected," the DGAC said in a statement. They invite "passengers who can to postpone their trip and to inquire with their airline about the status of their flight".

Royal Air Maroc (RAM), the national airline, has already canceled some flights between Morocco and France. "Due to the Strike Notice of the French civil service, relayed by the DGAC unions, we are forced to proceed with the cancellation of some flights on March 20, 21, 22 and 23, from and to France," it explained in a tweet on March 18.

The USACcgt, a minority union among air traffic controllers, opposes the postponement of the legal retirement age to 64 years. It "demands another reform than the one underway with retirement at 60 and maintenance of early retirement conditions for agents benefiting from active service. This is why, as part of these days of united action, the USACcgt calls on all DGAC and ENAC personnel to massively go on strike and participate in the demonstrations".
