Patrice Motsepe praises Morocco but passes the hot potato to the Court of Arbitration for Sport
The President of CAF, Patrice Motsepe, delivered a firm speech on Friday in Dar es Salaam regarding the incidents during the AFCON final. While he promises that the chaos observed "will not happen again", he nevertheless described the Moroccan edition as the "best in history".
The African football boss has delivered a mixed assessment from Tanzania. Addressing the controversial events that marred the final between Morocco and Senegal, Patrice Motsepe was uncompromising. "What happened... does not honor the African continent," he hammered, announcing an immediate revision of CAF regulations. The objective is clear: to toughen the disciplinary arsenal to punish serious violations and restore the tarnished image of continental football. "We will not tolerate if this happens again in the future," he warned.
While the final leaves a bitter taste, the overall organization of the tournament by the Kingdom has received full approval. Motsepe took the opportunity to thank King Mohammed VI, the government and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation for providing "magnificent" infrastructure and hospitality. "Morocco has been exceptional in every way," he stressed, validating the popular success of this edition.
On the legal front, the case is far from closed. The CAF president confirmed that the appeal filed by Morocco could continue up to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). A legal battle that should not obscure, according to him, the global enthusiasm generated by the competition: with 6.1 billion views on digital platforms, AFCON 2025 has shattered all audience records.
