Paris can worry: a Moroccan city climbs onto the podium of the most romantic cities in the world
Forget the Eiffel Tower, romance is now conjugated in Morocco. With a score of 7.5 out of 10, Marrakech shines with its charming establishments and couple activities. A performance that allows the Moroccan city to secure a prime spot among the global tourism elite.
While Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, a Mozio study is shaking up the global hierarchy of romance. Marrakech is securing a prime spot on the podium, rising to the third rank of the most sought-after destinations, just behind Venice and Florence. To establish this ranking, the experts crossed Google searches related to weddings with Tripadvisor data on restaurants and couple activities. Result: the Moroccan city trumps giants like Rome or Paris.
With a score of 7.5 out of 10, Marrakech stands out for its exceptional accommodation offer. There are 123 romantic hotels per 100,000 inhabitants, four times the global average.
While Venice remains untouchable with a score of 9.65, driven by 63,000 annual wedding searches, Marrakech clearly outperforms Paris, which only ranks ninth. In this top 10, Italy confirms its dominance with Florence and Rome, while India creates a surprise with Udaipur. Nicknamed the "Venice of the East", the latter accumulates 153,000 wedding searches per year, even attracting international stars like Jennifer Lopez. Edinburgh, London and San Francisco complete this highly contested ranking.
