Over 1 Million Moroccan Expats Transit Through Spanish Ports in Summer Return

Over 1 million (1,039,559) Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) have crossed the strait between June 15 and July 25 as part of Operation Marhaba.
In detail, Algeciras concentrates 60% of the MRE traffic, followed by Almeria (17%) and Tarifa (12%). The port of Tanger Med in Morocco welcomes 62% of the MREs arriving from Spain. In total, more than 22,000 professionals, including nearly 16,000 agents from the State’s security forces and bodies, have been mobilized for the successful organization of this year’s Operation Marhaba.
The Ministry of the Interior has put in place a significant security system to ensure the "fluidity and security" of the transit of MREs, as well as compliance with the health measures related to Covid-19.
Significant flows of MREs are expected in the coming days, particularly on July 29, 30 and 31 and August 1, 2, 3 and 4. During the return phase, massive arrivals of MREs should be recorded on August 27, 28 and 29, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
