Outgoing Moroccan PM’s Airport Expansion Decree Expropriates Land from Rif Resistance Hero’s Family

Before the transfer of power between Saâdeddine El Othmani and his successor Aziz Akhannouch, the outgoing Prime Minister had signed a decree of expropriation for public utility. Among the victims of this expropriation are the El Khattabi, a family representing the symbol of the Riffian resistance against the Spaniards.
The outgoing government needed land for the expansion of the Acharif Al-Idrissi Airport in Al Hoceïma. In this sense, Saâdeddine El Othmani had signed a decree of expropriation for public utility. Families have thus been dispossessed of several private hectares in the commune of Aït Youssef Ouali, reports Magrheb Intelligence. About ten members of the family of Abdelkarim El Khattabi are among the victims of expropriation.
Signed on September 8th, the decision bears the counter-signature of the former Minister of Tourism, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, now Minister of Economy and Finance in Akhannouch’s government. The National Airports Office (ONDA) will execute this decision.
