Oumi Rayane’s Academic Triumph: Cycling Champion’s Wife Steals Spotlight
This Tuesday, October 7, Oumi Rayane, the wife of Remco Evenepoel, received her master’s degree in applied economic sciences with honors during a ceremony that took place on the Grand-Place in Brussels. For once, the Moroccan was in the spotlight, and not her husband.
The date of October 7 was not chosen by chance. This date has a very special meaning for Oumi. On October 7, 2017, she began her relationship with Remco. Exactly five years later, on October 7, 2022, they got married. And this Tuesday, October 7, 2025, she reached another important milestone in her life by receiving her diploma on the Grand-Place in Brussels. A coincidence that makes this moment even more special.
For the occasion, the entire family was present in the front row: her husband Remco, accompanied by Oumi’s parents, her grandmother who came from Morocco, her two young brothers, her little sister, and her in-laws. For nearly two hours, they experienced a rather unusual moment: this time, it was not the cycling champion who was the center of attention, but Oumi. The young woman listened attentively to the speeches of her peers, while regularly casting emotional glances at her loved ones.
When her turn to speak came, being the last to take the stage, she said: "I want to thank God, my parents, my husband, my family, and my friends for their support." Her husband Remco had an unusual experience. The roles were reversed: his wife was in the spotlight, and he was behind his smartphone immortalizing the scene. The cycling champion remained discreet throughout the ceremony.
