Oujda Airport Remains Operational Despite Severe Flooding in Eastern Morocco

Despite the bad weather, Oujda-Angad airport continued to operate normally. No flights were canceled.
The torrential rains that hit the Oriental region, particularly the city of Oujda and its surroundings, on the night of Saturday to Sunday, caused severe flooding. The high water levels also caused floods and flooding in the tributaries near Oujda-Angad airport, temporarily closing the roads connecting the airport to the cities of Oujda and Beni Drar. Oujda airport and its airport facilities were submerged by the waters during this period. Faced with the extent of the damage, the staff and service providers of ONDA worked alongside the civil protection forces, local authorities, regional services and the municipality of Oujda to evacuate the water from the airport platform and its affected facilities. This rapid intervention made it possible to ensure the continuation of the airport’s activities.
Despite the heavy rains, air traffic in Oujda was not disrupted, the National Airports Office (ONDA) said in a statement, stating that all flights took place as scheduled and no cancellations were recorded, thanks to the availability of two operational runways. However, some flights departing from the airport experienced delays in the early hours of Sunday.
