Orca Pod Attacks Sailboat in Gibraltar Strait, Damaging Rudder

A group of orcas attacked a sailboat on Saturday in the Strait of Gibraltar, severely damaging the boat’s rudder, which nevertheless managed to reach the port of Tarifa.
In a social media post, the boat’s captain, Alessandro Tosetti, explained how his sailboat was attacked by these orcas: "I would have never imagined that a group of orcas would attack me in the strait. They were animals over five meters long, a family group, which, for half an hour, destroyed the Aspra, focusing their attack on the rudder."
Faced with this situation, Tosetti assures that he followed the recommended protocols for such circumstances, but nothing had worked. "After the first impacts, the hydraulic components of the rudder burst, leaving the ship adrift in the middle of a maritime traffic area," he added. With the help of Maritime Rescue, he was able to reach the port, escorted by a tugboat.
