Orange Charges Nearly Twice as Much for 1 Gbps Fibre in Morocco as in France

For a 1 Gbps fibre connection, Orange charges 29.99 euros a month in France and 949 dirhams in Morocco. How can such a gap be explained under the same brand? The comparison is even more striking when you look at Sosh’s offers, Orange’s brand.

Orange Charges Nearly Twice as Much for 1 Gbps Fibre in Morocco as in France

Prices are available on the operator’s official online stores. In France, the Livebox Lite special offer costs 29.99 euros a month for a connection of up to 1 Gbit/s download and 700 Mbit/s upload. In Morocco, the 1 Gbps fibre offer is listed at 949 dirhams a month. That works out to 11,388 dirhams a year, excluding one-off fees.

The French price does not disappear after the first year of the contract. Orange states that the 29.99-euro price remains in effect after twelve months. The contract commitment is twelve months in both countries.

At this price, French customers get a Livebox 5, a UHD TV decoder and 200 channels. The Moroccan package includes unlimited calls to domestic landlines, plus twenty hours of calls to domestic mobiles and international landlines. The services differ, but the advertised download speed is the same: one gigabit per second.

With Sosh, up to eight times the speed for less than thirty euros

The comparison becomes more striking with Sosh’s offers. Orange’s brand offers its Boost plan in France for 28.99 euros a month, with no commitment, a Livebox 7 SE and Wi-Fi 7. The advertised speed reaches 8 Gbit/s download and 2 Gbit/s upload for homes eligible for XGS-PON technology.

This package focuses on internet, with no TV or calls included. But for customers primarily looking for a fast connection, the contrast is striking: up to eight times the download speed of the Moroccan offer, for a monthly subscription costing less than thirty euros.

Sosh also offers a plan for 24.99 euros a month, with no commitment, offering shared download speeds of 2 Gbit/s and upload speeds of 800 Mbit/s. It includes a Livebox 6 and unlimited calls to landlines in more than one hundred destinations. Download speed is shared among devices, with a limit of 1 Gbit/s per Ethernet port.

For a Moroccan or an MRE comparing the cost of a connection in the two countries, these price lists raise questions. What network costs, competitive conditions or commercial choices lead Orange to charge 949 dirhams for gigabit service in Morocco, when its French offers provide higher speeds for less than thirty euros? The operator’s sales pages do not answer that question.
