Morocco’s Maroc Telecom Boosts Fiber Internet Speeds, Offers 1 Gb/s at No Extra Cost

Maroc Telecom is preparing to significantly modify its range of fiber optic offerings. Starting May 1st, a new pricing structure will come into effect, applicable to both existing customers and new subscriptions. This revision mainly results in a significant increase in the speeds offered at several tiers.
In detail, the subscription priced at 500 dirhams per month, which previously offered a speed of 100 Megabits per second (Mb/s), will see its speed doubled to reach 200 Mb/s, without any price change. At the same time, the operator is introducing a new entry-level offer providing 100 Mb/s for 400 dirhams per month. The upper tier is also evolving significantly: the maximum speed offered increases from 200 Mb/s to 1 Gigabit per second (Gb/s), for a price maintained at 1,000 dirhams per month. These new conditions are already visible on the Tic Maroc website.
Although the commercial application of these offers is set for the beginning of May, the technical implementation of the new speeds has already begun in the field. Thus, subscribers are sharing speed tests on social networks showing the achievement of these higher speeds, particularly the increase from 100 to 200 Mb/s. This deployment is being carried out gradually and is intended to eventually cover all of the operator’s fiber customers, permanently.
This doubling of speed will likely push other operators to do the same. It would therefore not be surprising if players like Orange and Inwi also announced a doubling of speed, without price changes, for both new and existing customers.
