Olympic Finalist Mohamed Katir Receives Hero’s Welcome in Spanish Hometown

The athlete Mohamed Katir, who finished eighth in the 5,000m final at the Tokyo Olympics, was honored upon his return to Mula, in the Murcia region. On Wednesday, he was applauded by some 500 people gathered at the town hall for a tribute ceremony.
Accompanied by members of his family, Mohamed Katir took part in this tribute ceremony organized in his honor. On this occasion, he signed the book of honor of Mula and received the enthusiastic applause of the residents who made the trip from the town hall square to tell him thank you.
"In Japan, I felt the support of my people and of Spain... I am happy to see that in my town too, the residents are proud of me," said Mo, who said he felt "this warmth throughout Spain".
The mayor, Juan Jesús Moreno, and the members of the Mula municipality congratulated and encouraged the athlete of Moroccan origin to continue on this momentum, he who is now the national record holder of the 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 meters.
