North African Nations Push for UNESCO Recognition of Couscous as Cultural Heritage

Couscous, a typically Moroccan dish common to all the countries of the Maghreb, could become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The organization is holding the 15th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, from December 14 to 19.
Given the current health situation, this session will be held online. Among the files that the experts will examine is the one presented jointly by Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania and Algeria.
These four countries want the legendary couscous, whose reputation goes beyond the borders of the Maghreb, to be inscribed on the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity, reports the MAP.
