Normandy Councilor Faces Racist Backlash After Sponsoring Macron for President

Naoual Guéry, regional councilor of Normandy, has faced racist and sexist insults, after announcing her sponsorship for Emmanuel Macron in the next presidential election.

In a tweet accompanied by a photo, Naoual Guéry, regional councilor in Normandy, member of the Terre d’Avenir group led by Laurent Bonnaterre, announced on Monday that she had sponsored Emmanuel Macron for the presidential election, reports Actu.fr. "It is one of the greatest moments of my life. After being naturalized in 2013, today as an elected official of the French Republic, I have the right and the honor to sign the sponsorship of a future president and not just any: Emmanuel Macron," she wrote.

This publication provoked lively comments from Internet users: "Naturalization is a crime against humanity and the tool of a soft genocide," or even "That’s why immigration must be stopped," "couch promotion." Naoual Guéry felt compelled to specify that her tweet "was in a benevolent spirit, to help two ideologies meet" "Being of foreign origin, I can carry the voice of the French."

She also took care to recall that she had a situation before leaving Morocco for France. "I was 30 years old when I arrived in France. In Morocco, I was a senior executive in health and a university professor, in addition to my doctoral studies in law. Subsequently, I was also able to be a university teacher in Rouen and continue my doctorate at the University of Le Havre," the elected official recalibrated.

"I am not today a representative of a particular community, I am French," she concluded.
