Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to Massive Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project

The Nigerian authorities have reiterated their willingness to make the gas pipeline project linking Nigeria and Morocco a reality. This announcement was made by Yusuf Usman, Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in a Nigerian daily.

The Nigerian government has finalized the plans to materialize this large-scale project that will follow the route of the West African gas pipeline and benefit several countries on the continent, announced Mr. Yusuf Usman, in an interview with the Nigerian News Direct newspaper.

The feasibility study is already completed and the final financing decision is in the process of being validated, reports the same source, citing Mr. Usman. He added that Nigeria will then launch the master plan for the gas decade to consolidate the viability of this major project.

The countries with gas deposits will inject their production into the pipeline, the NNPC chief also explained, noting that non-gas producing countries will be able to benefit from it and if they do not have enough resources to acquire gas, they will be able to obtain electricity.

It is a new development vision that is necessary for Africa, Mr. Usman essentially supported.

Resulting from an agreement signed between Morocco and Nigeria, the gas pipeline project, launched in 2016 in Abuja under the presidency of King Mohammed VI and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, should connect Nigeria’s gas resources, those of several West African countries and Morocco, and thus promote regional economic integration.
