Nicolas Cage's "Lord of War" Sequel Set to Film in Morocco

Filming of the sequel to the 2005 film "Lord of War" is set to begin soon in Morocco, with the return of Andrew Niccol as director and screenwriter.

After an eight-month break, caused by the strike of actors and writers united within the WGA (Writer’s Guild Association) and SAG-AFTRA unions, the preparation of the filming of the sequel to "Lord of War" entitled "Lords of War" has resumed. Filming is expected to begin in Morocco in March 2024, for a duration of about forty days. The filming crew will consist of 400 to 500 members, about a hundred of whom will come mainly from the United States and the United Kingdom. Some are currently on location scouting in various locations across Morocco. "The Moroccan crew members are better and better trained in recent years, thanks to all the big movies that have been shot here, and also thanks to the schools that have opened their doors and contributed to strengthening this young generation," said Karim Debbagh, head of the Tangier production company Kasbah Films on the sidelines of the Marrakech International Film Festival, which was held in Marrakech until December 3.

He will explain: "We are trying to cover four or five African countries, such as Libya, Egypt, Senegal, Mali and several Middle Eastern countries, and we have almost found everything in Morocco." According to the Moroccan producer, Casablanca is "so diverse", a city where we find "areas that look like Senegal and others that are very luxurious, like a Californian neighborhood". And to add: "But if you’re looking for places that look like Libya, Yemen or Syria, we can find them in Marrakech and its surroundings".

For the sequel to "Lord of War", Nicolas Cage reprises the role of Yuri Orlov, a character inspired by arms dealer Viktor Bout. "Lords of War will follow Yuri as he discovers the existence of his son, Anton, who is determined to become an even greater criminal than his father was. Not only does he sell weapons, but he is also interested in those who buy them. The film will follow the rivalry between the father and his son as they compete in all areas to determine which of the two is the strongest," summarizes the synopsis. The film’s budget is "around 7 million euros in spending in Morocco".

In addition to "Lords of War", Kasbah Films has been entrusted with the production of "Atomic", a British series whose first season will be entirely filmed in Morocco starting in May 2024, or "Faster Than
