Netflix and Disney are betting on Morocco: everything you need to know about the giant film city
Producer Khadija Alami is launching the Argan Studios project near Rabat. This 80-hectare ecosystem, representing an investment of 70 million euros, has already attracted the interest of Netflix, Disney and Prime Video to become the future African hub.
Strategically located between Rabat and Casablanca, the Argan Studios complex is preparing to transform the Moroccan audiovisual landscape. This large-scale project, whose first work will begin this year, plans the construction of XXL filming stages, a training campus dedicated to the film industry, as well as hotel infrastructure and business centers. The goal is a complete inauguration in 2030, with the opening of a first studio as early as 2027, according to Le Monde.
The initiative is led by Khadija Alami, a key figure in executive production in Morocco (Homeland, Prison Break). Relying on the expertise of MBS Group as a strategic partner, the project has already seduced the global platforms Netflix, Disney and Prime Video, who have expressed their intention to shoot their future productions there. The site is banking on optimal connectivity with international airports to compete with established destinations such as South Africa, Spain or Malta.
The financing of the first phase is provided by K Films to the tune of 18 million euros, thanks to local banking support and land facilities from the State. To complete the total investment of 70 million euros, discussions are underway with the World Bank and the Caisse de dépôt et de gestion (CDG). This deployment is receiving particular attention at the highest level of the State, underlining the kingdom’s ambition to professionalize its film industry.
In 2024, foreign productions injected around 110 million euros into the Moroccan economy. With Argan Studios, Morocco intends to capture a larger share of this market by integrating the entire value chain, from filming to post-production. This "film city" complements the outdoor sets of Ouarzazate with state-of-the-art indoor facilities, further consolidating Morocco’s position as a preferred destination for international blockbusters.
