NBA Expands Youth Basketball Program to Morocco and Rwanda in Partnership with OCP Group

About thirty school teams in Benguerir benefit from the NBA Jr program, the famous American basketball league, thanks to the partnership between the Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) Group and the NBA. At this major event set up simultaneously in Morocco and Rwanda, championships and seminars are also planned to democratize the discipline and educate young people in its main values.

Reveal basketball through the education of youth. This is the objective pursued by the Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) Group and the NBA by signing this partnership to develop the Jr programs of the famous American basketball league.

This initiative takes into account both boys and girls in Morocco and Rwanda, after the successful experience of Angola, Cameroon, Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire.

This program, launched simultaneously in the two countries, aims to allow about thirty school teams to compete in their respective championships.

Moreover, each team will represent one of the thirty NBA franchises, whose jersey it will proudly wear, in the dynamic of giving young people a taste for the orange ball.

In addition to these championships, interactive, fun and educational seminars are also organized to train these young people in the basic skills to be developed at their level: leadership, communication skills and compliance with basic health rules.

This initiative also plans the construction of new basketball courts in the two countries. The one in Morocco was inaugurated this week. All these efforts are deployed to reveal this discipline which football often steals the limelight.

This program was launched in the presence of several personalities, including former Boston Celtics and Miami Heat star Ray Allen, 10-time NBA All-Star and one of the best shooters in basketball history.

For the star, it is enough to implement the program, starting with NBA Africa, or the league, where children can attend basketball regularly for them to reveal their talents. "Many university coaches come to Africa because they know there is potential and talent, for several years," he said.
