National Geographic Names Marrakech Spice Market Among World’s Best

National Geographic has ranked the Rahba Kedima souk in Marrakech in its list of "the seven most exciting spice markets in the world".
"The souks of the fortified medina of the city of Marrakech are intoxicating but no more so than the spice square," wrote National Geographic, noting that the shops in the sheltered areas offer everything from star anise to cinnamon sticks and saffron threads, at relatively low prices.
In addition, "the center of the square is animated by people selling everything you are looking for, from argan oil to plant-based cosmetics."
The travel magazine also recommended leaving with aromatic spice blends, including the famous ras el hanout, which revive the senses.
Ranked third, Rahba Kedima in Marrakech is positioned ahead of the Misir Carsisi market in Istanbul, the Khari Baoli in Delhi, the Mombasa spice market and La Boqueria in Barcelona. The Dubai spice souk tops the list, followed by the Mercado Benito Juarez in Mexico.
