Nador West Med Port Construction Reaches Milestone with Main Breakwater Installation

The construction work on the Nador West Med port is progressing rapidly. The main breakwater of the infrastructure was installed on Friday, the Ministry of Equipment and Water announced.
"It is a challenge won to complete the work on the protection structures before the winter season," rejoiced Sanae El Amrani, director of ports at the ministry, specifying that this phase will allow maneuvering and protecting ships and quays.
After this stage, the installation of the port’s infrastructure, including 17 other caissons of the oil platforms, will be carried out, the official pointed out, adding that with this state of progress, the delivery deadline for the port complex scheduled for the end of 2023 will be met and its commissioning in 2024.
Initiated to strengthen Morocco’s energy and industrial sovereignty, Nador West Med will eventually be able to handle 3 million containers (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit - TEU) in a first phase, 25 million tons of hydrocarbons, 7 million tons of coal and 3 million tons of various goods.
