Nador West Med: Morocco aims for the lead in the Mediterranean

Morocco is about to complete the construction of the terminal of the new port of Nador, a major project aimed at propelling the country to the rank of leader in maritime transport in the Mediterranean.
The port of Nador (Nador West Med) is positioning itself as a real challenger to the ports of Algeciras and Valencia in Spain. Its strategic location on the Strait of Gibraltar and its ability to accommodate large ships give it a major advantage.
The new port will consist, in its first phase, of a main breakwater of 4,200 meters and a secondary breakwater of 1,200 meters. Industrial, logistics and service areas, as well as a container terminal, an oil terminal and other state-of-the-art facilities will make it a major economic hub.
To make it an essential hub, Morocco has already started negotiations with several countries for the management of the terminal of the new port of Nador. The Chinese company "Cosco", a key player in global maritime transport, is among the serious candidates.
The development of Nador West Med is part of a global strategy to transform Morocco into a leading logistics platform. The country already has the port of Tanger Med, which ranks among the largest container ports in Africa.
