Muslim Youth Guard Cathedral in Solidarity After Nice Attack

After the attack in Nice, young Muslims decided to symbolically protect the Saint-Fulcran Cathedral in Lodève in the Hérault. They organized a gathering in front of this place of worship last Thursday.
"We come symbolically to protect the cathedral. We are accused of many things, in particular of not reacting when there are attacks, we are insulted on social networks. (...) We are not enough, or poorly represented in the media, on TV sets where many people speak in our place," explains Elyazid Benferhat, president of AS Lodève Clermontais, the initiator of the gathering, to Midi Libre.
"We are French, we were born and grew up in Lodève, a city where communities live together, there is a cathedral, a mosque and never any problem between religions," he adds. These young Muslims say they are fed up with these atrocities, fed up with this ambient climate, fed up with this hypocrisy. "Where has my sweet France gone, that of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity? (...) Between the stupidity of some of my community, the incompetence of the leaders and the cowardice of some Internet users who spread hatred and division, my country is doing badly, very badly," he laments.
