Muslim-Led Political Party Launches Campaign for French Municipal Elections

The leaders of the Union of French Muslim Democrats presented on Sunday in Clichy some of their top candidates for the 2020 municipal elections, in front of about 80 residents from across the Paris region.

The Union of French Muslim Democrats has decided to "Act to no longer suffer" by launching on Sunday in Clichy its election campaign for the March 2020 municipal elections. This "secular" micro-party hopes to present about fifty lists. The participants in this meeting were composed of a majority of mostly unveiled women, often accompanied by children.

The objective of the union is to "fight rejection, discrimination" in the face of "sectarian discourses", those who "dream of a France closed in on itself" and who "have not understood the richness of diversity and plurality," said the president of the union, Nagib Azergui. He specified in front of about 80 people that the response to the ills that any Muslim endures must not be religious or communal, it must be political.

Created in 2012, this non-communitarian organization was already present this year in the European elections. Its candidates obtained scores above 5% in Gennevilliers, La Courneuve, Val-d’Oise, Mantes and Chanteloup.
