Muslim Community Condemns Fatal Church Attack in Spanish City of Algeciras

The Union of Islamic Communities of the Campo de Gibraltar condemned on Wednesday the alleged terrorist acts of the Moroccan who stabbed to death the sacristan of the church of Nuestra Señora de La Palma and seriously injured the priest of the chapel of San Isidro in Algeciras (Cádiz).
"It is with deep pain and great sadness that the Union of Islamic Communities of Campo de Gibraltar has learned of the vile and cowardly terrorist attack perpetrated in the city of Algeciras by an individual apparently of Arab origin. On behalf of all the Muslims of Campo de Gibraltar and Spain, we condemn this criminal act which constitutes a total disregard for human life and the servants of God," said its president, Mohammed Mokaddem, in a statement to the press.
The Union condemns this "unjustifiable" attack against citizens "without any distinction", "whatever the motivations of this individual", without failing to express its solidarity with the victims and their families. "We share the pain and sadness of the victims’ families and express our support to the security forces and bodies and the National Court prosecutor’s office investigating this terrible attack," it adds.
These criminal acts are "totally contrary to the Quran and the Sunnah and all the commandments of God and his prophets," the Union points out, which, on behalf of all Spanish Muslims, has expressed "its condolences to the families of the victims," wished the injured "a prompt and complete recovery" and its solidarity with all the citizens of Algeciras.
