Musician Younès Megri Refutes Nephew's Claims in Oudayas Eviction Dispute

Younès Megri blames Nasr, the son of his late brother Hassan, for having disseminated "in absolute agitation" senseless remarks in the wake of the case of the attempted eviction of the Megri brothers from the house they have been renting in the Kasbah of the Oudayas in Rabat for 50 years.

Younès Megri is angry with his nephew. In a post on his official Facebook account, he tries to restore elements of truth that are dear to him. "This legal case, if it concerns part of my family, does not concern me personally," he assures, before expressing his surprise to see that his name and image have been mentioned in some media "which have spread false information". These "information is false," Younès assures, promising that he will never be associated with any controversy questioning the law and justice for which he has a deep respect.

"I firmly condemn the behavior of this young boy who has never ceased to use the ’freedom of expression’ offered by social networks to disseminate, in absolute agitation, senseless remarks. And without our prior authorization, as required by law, he disseminates our works and our image, thus damaging our reputation," continues the uncle of Nasr. He also deplores the fact that his nephew, "who, instead of respecting the memory of his father who has given so much to Moroccan song, has decided to drag him through the mud with hysteria for purely personal and selfish purposes." "Our history is inscribed in the memory and heart of several generations and not on the panels of an old wall," adds the artist.

Last week, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, had received Younes and Mahmoud in his office following the attempted eviction of the Megri brothers from the house they have been renting in the Kasbah of the Oudayas in Rabat since 1974 and which has become the property of the plastic artist Leila Benabdeljalil, daughter of the former minister Abderahim Benabdeljalil.
