Munir El Haddadi Joins Morocco National Team After FIFA Rule Change

Munir El Haddadi will take part in the friendly matches played by the Atlas Lions, in preparation for the upcoming competitions. Vahid Halilhodzic wanted to expose the Sevilla FC player to the test of fire very early on to assess the quality of his game within the Moroccan national team.
The player had played in 2014 under the colors of the national team before benefiting from the new FIFA reform concerning dual nationals. He had expressed the wish to join the Atlas Lions for the 2018 World Cup but without succeeding. Today, it is done.
At the news of his first call-up for the friendly matches, Munir El Haddadi did not hesitate to react on social networks. On his Instagram account, while rejoicing in the confidence placed in him by the national coach, the Sevilla FC striker expressed his gratitude towards Spain through a "Thank you", wearing the Spanish flag before showing himself in the colors of Morocco, reports Hespress.
The coach has placed high hopes in his new protégé who, according to him, is a major asset. He does not hesitate, moreover, to defend him tooth and nail against the criticisms that have rained down from all sides when he decided to call him up for the friendly matches. During the press conference held on Thursday, October 1st, the coach addressed the criticisms and asked the journalists to support these dual nationals who have taken it upon themselves to be part of the national team. "For 6 months, you can’t imagine how many times we’ve talked. They are also Moroccans, like you. Don’t say they are half Moroccan. I think their words are sincere and that they really want to bring something more to the Moroccan team."
The two friendly matches for which the 25-year-old striker has been called up will take place in Rabat starting October 9 on the pitch of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex. It will be against Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This is in preparation for the qualifications for the 2021 CAN and the 2022 World Cup.
