Munir El Haddadi escapes Iran after dangerous overland journey to Turkey

The Moroccan striker for Esteghlal Tehran managed to leave Iranian territory after an aborted attempt to travel by air. Munir El Haddadi shared details of his overland journey to Turkey before his scheduled return to Spain.

Following the recent military strikes and the sudden closure of Iranian airspace, Munir El Haddadi found himself stranded on the tarmac. “Yesterday, the intention was to leave the country by air, but in the end they evacuated us from the plane and we were unable to take off,” the player explained on social media, describing the urgency of the situation.

Faced with paralyzed air traffic, the footballer had to choose a risky alternative. “The club provided me with a car so I could leave the country by road, and thanks to that, I was able to cross the border without any problems,” he explained. The journey of more than 12 hours took him from Tehran to the Turkish border, as military tensions reached a peak in the region.
