Mother Arrested in Spain After Daughter’s Death Ruled Suffocation, Not Fire

A fire broke out in February in the home of a Moroccan family. A daughter died. The autopsy results lead the authorities to arrest the mother. The story:
A fire had broken out in Carcaboso, Spain. Aouatif, a 25-year-old woman, died. Her mother had claimed she died of asphyxiation. However, the autopsy has just revealed that no, she died of suffocation and the fire in the house would likely have been set after that, to mislead the investigators.
This would have generated suspicions against the mother, who has just been arrested by the Guardia Civil. She is nevertheless being prosecuted, according to the website Hoy, for involuntary manslaughter.
It should be noted that in the family home, the young girl lived with her parents and four brothers. And they have lived in this town for 16 years, known to be well integrated. There were three other minor injuries in this fire, a 33-year-old man and two women.
The woman’s arrest took place on May 28. But as Spanish media point out, there is virtually no evidence incriminating her. One wonders why she was arrested, according to her lawyers. And why prosecute her for involuntary manslaughter, if the theory of murder by suffocation is retained? Strange story...
According to the same source, the Moroccan woman was released with the obligation to appear before the court every Monday and Thursday of each week, with the prohibition of leaving the national territory and the withdrawal of her passport. The fire took place on February 6.
