Morocco’s Ziyech Returns to Training, Fitness in Question for Ivory Coast Friendly

Still suffering from a slight foot pain, Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech who now plays as a right winger or attacking midfielder at Galatasaray SK resumed training on Monday. Will he be able to play against Côte d’Ivoire on October 14 as part of a friendly match in Abidjan?
Ziyech trained on Monday at the Mohammed VI Complex in Salé, which gives him the opportunity to play in Morocco’s upcoming matches. The Atlas Lions will face Côte d’Ivoire, host country of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations football (CAN) to be held from January 13 to February 11, 2024, on Saturday, October 14, in a friendly match in Abidjan (5:00 p.m. local time, 6:00 p.m. Moroccan time), then Liberia on Tuesday, October 17 at the Grand Stade d’Agadir as part of the 2023 CAN qualifiers.

Since September 23, the Moroccan international has been absent from the pitch. He was injured during a match between his new club Galatasaray and İstanbul Başakşehir. Ziyech is still "suffering from a slight foot pain. We don’t want to take any risks. These players are not used to the rhythm of consecutive matches. They haven’t played for a long time. After playing 3 matches, he had pain," explained Okan Buruk, his coach. He preferred not to field him for the Turkish club’s upcoming matches.
Will Walid Regragui do the opposite? Before playing the 30-year-old player, the coach of the Moroccan national team must ensure that he is fit. The medical staff of the selection must examine Ziyech and produce a report explaining his condition.
