Morocco’s World Cup Hopes Alive: Atlas Lionesses Eye Round of 16 Qualification
After their historic victory against South Korea, the Atlas Lionesses still have the opportunity to qualify for the round of 16. What are the possible scenarios for the qualification of the Moroccan team ranked in group H?
Morocco will face Colombia on Thursday after their victory against South Korea and their heavy defeat (0-6) against Germany, double world champions. Their qualification for the round of 16 seems unlikely but not impossible. "With 3 points on the board, the Atlas Lionesses can still qualify," analyzes Le Matin, which presents the possible scenarios for the qualification of the Moroccan team.
Reynald Pedros’ protégées would secure qualification if they beat Colombia and Germany draw or lose against South Korea as part of the 3rd matchday of the 2023 Women’s World Cup Australia / New Zealand. Thus, the Atlas Lionesses would total 6 points on a par with Colombia, while Germany would have 4 or three points.
If Morocco draws against Colombia, and Germany is beaten by South Korea, qualification would be possible. In this case, Ghizlane Chebak’s teammates would come out with a total of 4 points in 2nd place against 7 for Colombia and 3 for Germany and South Korea. Another possible scenario: the Atlas Lionesses win against Colombia by more than four goals if Germany wins.
If Morocco loses to Colombia and Germany and South Korea draw or the Germans get a win, they will not qualify for the round of 16.
