Morocco’s World Cup Heroes Receive Rapturous Homecoming After Historic Run

The national team returned on Tuesday evening after a good performance at the 2022 Qatar World Cup. The Moroccan delegation was expecting a warm welcome, but the result was beyond their expectations.
Back from Qatar, the Moroccan players were acclaimed by thousands of people who wanted to honor them for their performance at the World Cup. Coach Walid Regragui said he did not expect such "popular fervor". He describes an "incredible" welcome that "will push the players to always give their maximum when they wear the national team jersey".
"The popular fervor was incredible, it allows the players to measure the expectations of the people," he said in a statement to the press, following the meeting between King Mohammed VI and the members of the national football team.
Reflecting on Morocco’s performance at the World Cup, Walid Regragui expressed his gratitude to the players for honoring their country. He did not forget the supporters without whom the adventure at the World Cup would not have been a success. Even though Morocco exits this World Cup with a historic result, the coach says he is somewhat disappointed for not offering at least third place to the Moroccans. During the audience that the king granted to the Moroccan delegation, Walid Regragui was decorated with the Ouissam Al Arch of the 2nd class (Commander).
The celebrations in tribute to the Atlas Lions ended with a reception offered by the king accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid, in the Throne Room at the Royal Palace in Rabat.
