Morocco World Cup Celebration in Brussels Leads to 60 Arrests Amid Unrest

Demonstrations without major incidents took place in several cities in Belgium, following Morocco’s qualification for the World Cup semi-finals. But in Brussels, some disturbances occurred, leading to numerous arrests.
Some 59 Moroccan supporters were arrested during the gatherings celebrating Morocco’s historic qualification for the World Cup semi-finals. According to Ilse Van de Keere, the spokesperson for the Brussels police, these are mostly arrests necessary for the restoration of calm and the maintenance of order, reports 7sur7.
"We observed massive use of pyrotechnic equipment. Our services immediately intervened for small groups of rioters who threw projectiles at the law enforcement agencies and used fireworks in the neighborhoods of Boulevard Poincaré and the Aviation Square in Brussels and on the Bara Square in Anderlecht."
For the spokesperson, the police had only arrested 10 people, but around 9:00 p.m., the disturbances became more serious, leading to 60 arrests in Brussels. Some incidents were noted in Antwerp with one person injured in the hand after the explosion of a firework. According to the Gazet van Antwerpen, the injured person lost three fingers.
