Morocco’s Women’s Team Secures $1.87 Million Bonus for World Cup Round of 16 Qualification

The Atlas Lionesses have secured their historic qualification for the round of 16 of the Women’s World Cup by beating Colombia (1-0) on Thursday in Perth. How much is their bonus?
The Moroccan team will receive a total of $1.87 million (18.2 million dirhams) from FIFA after reaching the round of 16 for the very first time. Each player will receive $60,000 (over 584,217 dirhams). In the event of qualification for the quarter-finals scheduled for Tuesday against France, the endowment will reach $2.18 million. Each player will then receive $90,000. If Morocco finishes fourth, it will receive $2.45 million. On the third step of the podium, the Moroccan team will be entitled to $2.61 million. Morocco will receive $3 million as a finalist. The winning team will receive a total of $4.29 million.
The endowment of the 2023 Women’s World Cup has seen a significant increase. It has gone from $80 million at the last World Cup to $110 million. This amount represents double the initial offer of $60 million. Despite this increase, the inequality of bonuses between men and women in football remains. A problem that FIFA President Gianni Infantino intends to solve. "Our ambition would of course be to achieve equal pay for the 2026 men’s World Cup and the 2027 women’s World Cup," he promised.
