Morocco’s Women’s Soccer Team Misses Olympics, Coach Vilda Faces Pay Cut

The Spanish coach of the Atlas Lionesses, Jorge Vilda, failed to secure a qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. A first failure with Morocco that will negatively impact his salary.
Under Vilda’s orders, the Moroccan players were defeated by the Zambians (0-2), on Tuesday at the Moulay El Hasan stadium in Rabat, in the return leg of the fourth and final round of qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Thus, the Moroccan women’s football team will unfortunately not be at these Games, despite their 2-1 victory against Zambia in the first leg played on April 5 at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola.
This first failure of Vilda with Morocco will undoubtedly affect his income. According to the terms of his contract with Morocco, Vilda should see his salary rise to 400,000 euros if he managed to obtain a qualification for the Olympic Games, the World Cup and the African Cup. With the Olympic dream shattered, the Spanish coach will certainly feel this failure in his finances.
The Spanish coach should earn 200,000 euros per year plus performance bonuses, like his predecessor, Reynald Pedros. An amount higher than his salary of 170,000 euros he received in Spain, but lower than the 500,000 euros he would have earned if he had remained with the Roja after winning the World Cup, recalls La Razón.
