Morocco’s Women’s Futsal Team Clinches World Cup and African Cup Spots with Semifinal Victory

The Lionesses of futsal roared in Rabat. The Moroccan women’s team secured their ticket to the African Cup of Nations final by defeating Angola with a score of 5 goals to 1. A success that also opens the doors to another prestigious competition: the 2025 World Cup.
From the start of the match, the Moroccans displayed their intentions. Putting pressure from the beginning, they nevertheless long struggled against a well-positioned Angolan goalkeeper, while Angola tried to respond with quick counterattacks. It wasn’t until the 13th minute that Doha El Madani finally found the opening and gave her team the lead. But the joy was short-lived: five minutes later, Djamila Katombela leveled the score for Angola (18th). Despite efforts deployed on both sides, the tied score (1-1) held until halftime, leaving the suspense intact.
After returning from the locker rooms, the tension remained palpable. The Lionesses continued to push to regain the lead, but still lacked precision in the final touch against a well-grouped Angolan team ready to exploit the slightest opportunity. It was finally Zineb Roudani who managed to break the deadlock in the 30th minute, giving Morocco the lead again. A goal that would prove to be the real turning point of this semi-final.
Forced then to open up to try to equalize, the Angolans left spaces in their defense, which the Moroccans knew how to exploit with formidable efficiency. Jasmine Demraoui first widened the gap in the 33rd minute, before Doha El Madani scored a personal double two minutes later (35th). Shortly after, Meryem Hajri added a fifth and final goal, definitively sealing the large Moroccan victory (5-1). Angola, overwhelmed in this end of the match, could only witness the damage.
This clear victory propels Morocco to the final of the Women’s Futsal AFCON. The Lionesses will face Tanzania, who defeated Cameroon (3-2) in the other semi-final. The appointment is set for this Wednesday, April 30 at 8 pm, still at the Prince Moulay Abdallah sports complex in Rabat. Beyond this continental final, this success also ensures Morocco’s place for the next World Cup of the discipline, which will be held in the Philippines in November and December 2025.
