Morocco’s Women’s Football Revolution: Royal Investment Aims for African Dominance and Global Impact

Morocco’s ambition is to make its women’s football the best in the African continent, but also to strengthen its position on the global stage of women’s football, while following the lead of pioneering countries like England, Spain, France and the United States of America. And, it is putting the necessary financial resources in place to achieve these goals.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) pays $500 per month to each player playing in the local championship, in order to ensure that they have regular and sustainable material income, and to avoid any potential setbacks in case of financial difficulties of the clubs, reveals BBC. According to the British channel, Morocco is the country that invests the most financially in this area on the African scale, as the other countries on the continent only rely on the subsidies granted by the international and African football federations.
Furthermore, the publication states that the financial reserves allocated to the FRMF to invest in women’s football are granted by King Mohammed VI, in order to accelerate the pace of development of women’s football in Morocco. The efforts of the kingdom are not limited to the development of women’s football and the acceleration of its progress. The FRMF also invests in the organization of events and activities related to it, including the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. This competition will even take place in the kingdom in March 2026 for the third time in just a few years.
Morocco will also host five editions of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The first edition will be held from October 17 to November 8, 2025 in the kingdom. The FIFA President does not spare his praise for the kingdom, which succeeds in organizing sporting events. "Morocco continues to succeed and demonstrates on every occasion its ability to ensure the success of all major and important sporting competitions," said Gianni Infantino, during a FIFA conference in Doha last month.
